EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
This position is responsible for operation of various pieces of medium and heavy equipment used to maintain county roads, drainage systems, and county rights-of-way.
Job duties include, but are not limited to, the operation of various pieces of medium and heavy equipment, to include ag-tractors, skid steers, backhoes, track loaders, rubber tire loaders, bull dozers, rollers and excavators.
This position is also responsible for the operation of medium and heavy trucks such as dump trucks, flat bed dumps, roll-off trucks, and water trucks.
Additionally, this position is responsible for the operation of various pieces of gas-powered equipment such as, trimmers, brush cutters, pole saws, and chain saws.
Performs various other duties as assigned by the Public Works Foreman.
This position reports directly to the Public Works Foreman
Minimum qualifications include a valid class C Georgia driver’s license, knowledge and a level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Applicants must be physically able to walk and stand for long periods and repetitively lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
If hired, applicant will be required to possess a Class B commercial driver’s license within 6 months of hire date. An aptitude test will be conducted as a part of the interview process.
This is a full-time position and compensation will be based on qualifications and the current county pay scale with a comprehensive benefits package.

Putnam County is seeking a motivated, dedicated team member for the Full-time position of Firefighter.
This position protects lives and property through suppression activities and public education. Firefighters may perform rescue, emergency medical care and respond to hazardous material incidents. The successful applicant will have the ability to satisfactorily complete rigorous training programs to comply with the requirements of the Georgia Firefighter’s Standards and Training Act.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma, or GED equivalent, and a valid Georgia driver’s license. Applicant must also submit along with the completed application a signed MVR consent form for a driver’s history report. Must pass criminal history review. Requirements also include MAR (medical aid responder training) within the first year next to the NPQ FF1 requirement. Applicants must be in excellent physical condition; be able to pass all pre-employment tests; be of good moral character and have no felony convictions for the past 10 years.
The position requires a work schedule of 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty typically, part-time hours may vary. Applicants must be able to meet requirements for NPQ Firefighter 1 certification. Compensation will be based on qualifications and the current county pay scale.

Building Inspector
This successful candidate is responsible for administering the Putnam County Code of Ordinances, specifically Chapter 18 Buildings and Building Regulations, Chapter 28 – Development Regulations, 30 – Environment, 34 – Flood, Chapter 48 – Signs, Chapter 66 – Zoning, and the International Building Codes. It also includes reviewing and approving construction plans, enforcing any ordinances adopted by Putnam County and or laws that are applicable in order to ensure compliance with relevant construction and county codes. The position requires knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
Applicant should have and maintain certifications from the International Building Code in most of the following areas: building inspector, residential or commercial electrical inspector or electrical contractor, mechanical inspector, plumbing inspector, conditioned air contractor, journeyman plumber, master plumber or one and two-family dwelling inspector or have a valid certificate of registration as a professional engineer.
Five years of progressively responsible related experience or combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions are required.
This is a Full-Time position and compensation will be based on qualifications and the current county pay scale.
